Prayers for Protection, to Oneself and Another

Prayer for Oneself

"Lord God, Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, I come before you in the name of the Lord Jesus.

I ask that I may have the powerful protection that comes form the Precious Blood of Your Son that was poured out for me on the cross at Calvary.

In the name of Your Son, the Lord Jesus, I ask that you send angels to protect and defend me from any attack of the enemy and to defend all the members of my family, my friends and loved ones.

Protect and bless everyone who has asked me to pray for them.

Give me the grace to hear your voice and the courage to walk in your ways.

I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who will come again in the fullness of his glory. To him be glory and praise, now and forever.

Amen!"

Prayers to Saint Sebastian

Saint Sebastian, pray for us!

Saint Sebastian (c. AD 256 – 288) was an early Christian saint and martyr. According to traditional belief, he was killed during the Roman emperor Diocletian's persecution of Christians, initially being tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows, though this did not kill him.

He was, according to tradition, rescued and healed by Saint Irene of Rome, which became a popular subject in 17th-century painting. In all versions of the story, shortly after his recovery he went to Diocletian to warn him about his sins, and as a result was clubbed to death.

He is venerated in the Roman Catholic Church (feast January 20) and the Orthodox Church (feast December 18).

Saint Sebastian is a very popular patron saint as he is the patron saint of Athletes and Soldiers. Due to his unwaiving commitment to Christ and the courageous way he faced his martyrdom, he serves as an example of true love of God. He is usually depicted standing in front of a tree with an arrow pierced through him.

Prayer for Saint Sebastian

"Dear Commander at the
Roman Emperor's court,
you chose to be also a soldier
of Christ and dared to spread
faith in the King's of King's,
for which you were condemned to die.
Your body, however proved
athletically strong and the
executing arrows extremely
weak, so another means to
kill you was chosen and you
gave your life to the Lord.
May us be always as strong in
their faith as you so clearly
have been.

Amen!"

Saint Sebastian Guidance Prayer

"O Lord, grant us the spirit of fortitude,
so that guided by the example of the martyr St. Sebastian,
we may learn to bear witness to the Christian Faith
and patiently support the sufferings of life.

Through Christ Our Lord.

Amen!"

Powerful Prayer to St. Sebastian

"Glorious St Sebastian, you, who enjoy God’s favour, what a splendid example you gave to us by your life of prayer, sacrifice, suffering and martyrdom. St Sebastian, friend and helper of farmers, who did so often avert illnesses and pestilences by your intercession, you are also a powerful helper in the battles against sin, lukewarmness, loose morals and human respect.

We now beseech you with childlike confidence, O St Sebastian, our holy heavenly friend. Make us strong and joyful in faith, give us perseverance, obtain for us to be humble and content in living a simple, orderly life that is pleasing in the sight of the Almighty.

Protect us from sin, from obvious and from secret vices and passions. Shield us from being quarrelsome and from drinking excessively, from being immoderate and from sloth, from jealousy, hard-heartedness, superstition and any kind of dishonesty. Bless livestock, life, livelihoods, forests, pastures and the entire countryside.

Intercede, we entreat you, for thriving growth and against pestilences and illnesses. Strengthen us in our service for God, our fellow men and our country and, by your prayers, lead us all into our eternal country.

Amen!"

Prayer for St. Anthony to find a lost article

Prayer for Saint Anthony to find a lost article

Saint Anthony, prefect imitator of Jesus, who received from God the special power of restoring lost things, grant that I may find (mention your petition) which has been lost. At least restore to me peace and tranquility of mind, the loss of which has afflicted me even more than my material loss. To this favor I ask another of you: that I may always remain in possession of the true good that is God. Let me rather lose all things than lose God, my supreme good. Let me never suffer the loss of my greatest treasure, eternal life with God. Amen

Prayer for Peace of Saint Francis of Assisi

Although commonly attributed to Francis of Assisi (1181/2-1226 A.D.), the prayer itself cannot be traced back later than 1912 when it appeared in a French magazine entitled, La Clochette (The Little Bell).

The earliest English translation, reproduced below, was printed anonymously in the Quaker periodical Friends' Intelligencer.
(Wikisource)

A prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace

Where there is hatred, let me sow love

Where there is injury, pardon

Where there is doubt, faith

Where there is despair, hope

Where there is darkness, light

And where there is sadness, joy

O Divine Master, grant that I may

Not so much seek to be consoled as to console

To be understood, as to understand

To be loved, as to love

For it is in giving that we receive

And it's in pardoning that we are pardoned

And it's in dying that we are born to Eternal Life

Amen!"

Catholic Basic Prayers

Our Father "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.Apostles' Creed

"I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.

He decended to the dead.

On the third day He rose again.

He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen."

Our Father

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen."

Hail Mary

"Hail Mary, full of grace! The Lord is with you; blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen."

Glory Be

"Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen."

Hail, Holy Queen

"Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ."

O God

"O God, whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee, that meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen."

O My Jesus

"O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us form the fires of hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who are most in need of Thy mercy."

Prayer to Three Magi (Wise Men or Kings) to make an request

The Magi were a group of three Wise Men (Kings), who travelled from the East to find and worship the Baby Jesus at the time of his birth. Their names are Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar.

They were guided by, “The Star of Bethlehem,” and were accompanied by Shepherds and Angels. They brought with them gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Their joy is celebrated in this Prayer to make an request. The Epiphany (6th January) is often referred to as the Three King’s Day.

Prayer to Holy Magi (Three Kings)

"O Holy Magi, you were living in continual expectation of the rising of the Star of Bethlehem  which would announce the birth of the true Son of justice; obtain for me an increase of faith and charity, and the grace to live in continual hope of beholding, one day, the light of heavenly glory and eternal joy.

(Share your request …)

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen!"

Prayer to the Infant Jesus

"Infant Jesus, meek and mild,
look on me a little child.
Pity mine and pity me,
suffer me to come to Thee.

Heart of Jesus, I adore Thee.
Heart of Mary, I implore Thee.
Heart of Joseph, pure and just.
In these three hearts, I put my trust.

Help us Joseph in our early strife,
ever to lead a pure and blameless life.

O, Holy Magi, Pray for Us.

Amen!"

Prayer to Saint Barbara

Prayer to Saint Barbara for protection and blessings. Saint Barbara is often portrayed holding a chalice and sword and a tower behind, sometimes with cannons depicted by her side.
Saint Barbara, known in the Eastern Orthodox Church as the Great Martyr Barbara, was an early Christian Greek saint and martyr. Saint Barbara is often portrayed holding a chalice and sword and a tower behind, sometimes with cannons depicted by her side (as in beside picture of an holly card).

As one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, Barbara continues to be a popular saint in modern times, perhaps best known as the patron saint of armourers, artillerymen, military engineers, miners and others who work with explosives because of her legend's association with lightning, and also of mathematicians.

A 15th-century French version of her story credits her with thirteen miracles, many turn on the security she offered that her devotees would not die before getting to make confession and receiving extreme unction.

Your feast day is celebrated on December 4.

Prayer to St. Barbara

"Saint Barbara, your courage is much stronger than the forces of hurricanes and the power of lightening.

Be always by our side so that we, like you, may face all storms, wars, trials and tribulations with the same fortitude with which you faced yours.

O Beautiful Maiden once imprisoned in a high tower, protect us from the lightning and fire that rages in the sky and the discord of war.

Keep us alert and protect us from the dangers that surround us.

Holy Mary Mother of Jesus intercessor for us all; we pray to assure receiving of the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist at the hour of our death.

Through Jesus Christ Our Lord,

Amen!"

Prayer to Saint Jerome

Prayer to St. Jerome (for insight) Image: Saint Jerome in the Desert - by Bernardino Pinturicchio (c. 1475–80) Public Domain
Jerome (347/420) was a Latin priest, confessor, theologian, and historian, commonly known as Saint Jerome. He was born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia.

He is best known for his translation of most of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate), and his commentaries on the Gospels. His list of writings is extensive.

Patronage of archaeologists; archivists; Bible scholars; librarians; libraries; school children; students; translators; Morong e Rizal. He's feast is celebrated on September, 30.

Prayer to St. Jerome

(for insight)

"Through your anger and confrontations you remind us that we all have a duty to confront others from time to time.

You also remind us that we have a duty to examine ourselves and confront our own weaknesses and harmful behaviours.

Your life teaches that I must accept others for who they are.

You taught of the danger of self-righteousness; of the importance of reflecting upon one of Jesus most insightful teachings: "Let the man who has no sin on his conscience throw the first stone."

In the light of your teachings, Saint Jerome, help me to see my own self clearly.

Help me to confront my own biases and to act to change others only out of love.

If I see that I have the duty to confront another, I ask you to be with me during those necessary but unpleasant moments of confrontation.

Help me to remember that love alone can make changes for the good.

Amen"

7 Prayers for Our Nature, Environment and Sustainability

Let's Pray for our Common Home!

Prayer of St. Francis "Dear Mother earth, Who day by day unfolds rich blessing on our way, O Praise God! Alleluia! The fruits and flowers that verdant grow, Let them his praise abundant show. O praise God, O praise God, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia." - St. Francis

Canticle of the Creatures

"All praise be yours, My Lord
through all that you have made.

And first my lord Brother Sun, who brings the day...
How beautiful is he, how radiant in all his splendor!
Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness.

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Moon and Stars;
In the heavens you have made them, bright and precious and fair.

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air...

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Water,
So useful, lowly, precious and pure.

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom you brighten up the night...

All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Earth, our mother,
Who feeds us...and produces various fruits
With colored flowers and herbs...

Praise and bless my Lord, and give him thanks,
And serve him with great humility."

- Attributed to St. Francis of Assisi

Prayer of St. Francis

"Dear Mother earth,
Who day by day unfolds rich blessing on our way,

O Praise God! Alleluia!

The fruits and flowers that verdant grow,
Let them his praise abundant show.

O praise God, O praise God, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia."

A Prayer for Our Environment from Pope Francis 'Laudato Si'

"All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.

Fill us with peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes.

Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle
for justice, love and peace.

An Amazing Day

"I thank You God for most this amazing
day: for leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes."

We Thank You, Creator God

"We thank you, creator God,
for the goodly heritage you offer us,
from green downland
to the deep salt seas,
and for the abundant world
we share with your creation.

Keep us so mindful of its needs
and those of all with whom we share,
that open to your Spirit
we may discern and practice
all that makes for its wellbeing,
through Jesus Christ our Lord."

- Rev. Peter Lippiett

Holy Spirit, We need Your Help

"Holy Spirit we need help!
Our planetary home is hurting;
global warming and climate change
with millions of humans uprooted,
and fish, flower and fauna
facing dire extinction.
Holy Spirit hear us!

We stewards of creation
plead human need for counsel
before using our God given gifts
communally with many others
to repair the harm of our greed
with faith in your guidance.
Holy Spirit help us!

We are too ego bent
to one colour of the spectrum,
our need is urgent for inspiration
so truths of our baptismal faith
rend our stubborn hearts
to solidarity of intent.
Holy Spirit inspire us!

We await clergys’ help
ordained to pilot our prayers
within our sacramental sanctuaries
sustaining our own lay callings
for social and eco-justice;
help heal our home.
Holy Spirit guide us!"

A Prayer about Nature and God's Creation

"Loving Father and Creator
of all we come to you today
deeply grateful for your creation.

As we look around us
we are amazed at the greatness
and majesty of all that you have made.

Nature around us speaks of your greatness
the vast expanse of the sky, the mountains,
trees, lakes and streams speak of your great design.

You have given us such beauty
in the colors of the rainbow,
the beauty of flowers and fields.

Words cannot adequately express
the magnificence of all you have created.

We join in praise with the writer of the psalms
when he says,
'O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.'

May we show our love and reverence
to you, our Lord, by caring for all that you
have created.
We humbly give you praise and thanks."

Amen

Saint Michael the Archangel powerful prayer to make an petition

Saint Michael the Archangel powerful Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel powerful Prayer and Novena "St. Michael the Archangel, we honor you as a powerful protector of the Church and guardian of our souls. Inspire us with your humility, courage and strength that we may reject sin and perfect our love for our Heavenly Father. In your strength and humility, slay the evil and pride in our hearts so that nothing will keep us from God. St. Michael the Archangel, pray that we may be blessed by God with the zeal to live our lives in accordance with Christ’s teachings. St. Michael the Archangel, you are the prince of angels but in your humility, you recognized that God is God and you are but His servant. Unlike Satan, you were not overcome with pride but were steadfast in humility. Pray that we will have this same humility. It is in the spirit of that humility that we ask for your intercession for our petitions… (state your petitions) Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen!"

A Prayer for Living We are all Brothers and Sisters "Fratelli Tutti"

A Prayer for Living "Fratelli Tutti"

"When our lofty words of love have been emptied of their meaning,

When our borders and computer screens have erected impenetrable walls,

When our minds are so quick to conflate "other" with "enemy,"

How will we find our common humanity?

It's never too late to make an earnest and tender start.

May we remove from our pockets the stones we intended to throw

And cement them together to build a home that welcomes all.

May we repent of our indifference and move into genuine encounter.

Instead of drawing battle lines,

May we draw our chairs up to a communal table,

Where we can feast in the knowledge of our shared dignity.

May God grant us the holy vision

To see every human being a sacred mystery,

And may we love each mystery not abstractly, but concretely.

Just as Thomas touched the wounds of Jesus,

May we be unafraid to touch the wounds of our suffering neighbor.

May we lay down our arms and offer our outstretched hands,

Until there is no "them," but only "us,"

Until we are at last, sisters and brothers, all.

Amen."

'Prayer of a Lord's Severant' (Psychographed by Chico Xavier)

"Lord, tech us to tread the luminous path of helping our brothers and sisters. Give us the strenght to tear down the heavy fortress that harbors our own faults and mistakes. Courage, to start on the path that will set us free from our old selves. And the means for opening our hearts in favour of our fellow creatures, offering them, at long last, the treasures of love that You entrusted us with. So that, wherever we go, suffering becomes less excruciating, ignorance less forceful, hate less cruel, darkness less harsh, discouragement less dismal, and prejudice less destructive. While we still lack the moral virtues to enrich our journey on Earth, help us in alleviating the sorrows that surround us. Be it that in Your name we may spread fraternity and renovation, using with joy the sublime and invisible gifts of silence, undestanding, and renunciation. Lord, You taught us, without words, the supreme lessons of the simplicity of the manger and the sacrifice on the cross, thus showing us the path for the strengthening of our spirits and the divine ressurrection. Guide our hesitant steps and sustain our blessed intentions, so that Your will, merciful and just, becomes manifest in our hearts, for us and to us, today and forever, whereever we may be. And so be it." Prayer by Emmnuel (Spirit), psychographed by Chico Xavier

English

“Glorious St. Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to gratefully and joyously deem it an honor to employ and to develop by labor the gifts I have received from God, to work methodically, peacefully, and in moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from it through weariness or difficulty to work; above all, with purity of intention and unselfishness, having unceasingly before my eyes the account I have to render of time lost, talents unused, good not done, and vain complacency in success, so baneful to the work of God. O patriarch St. Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity.”

Espanol
