"Extolling your might, O Lord, we humbly implore you, that, as Saint George imitated the Passion of the Lord, so he may lend us ready help in our weakness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen."

St. George Novena

Pray the following four prayers for nine consecutive days.

Preparatory Prayer:

"Almighty and eternal God! With lively faith and reverently worshipping Thy divine Majesty, I prostrate myself before Thee and invoke with filial trust Thy supreme bounty and mercy. Illumine the darkness of my intellect with a ray of Thy heavenly light and inflame my heart with the fire of Thy Divine love, that I may contemplate the great virtues and merits of the Saint in whose honour I make this novena, and following his example imitate, like him, the life of Thy Divine Son.

Moreover, I beseech Thee to grant graciously, through the merits and intercession of this powerful Helper, the petition which through him I humbly place before Thee, devoutly saving, 'Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.' Vouchsafe graciously to hear it, if it redounds to Thy greater glory and to the salvation of my soul. Amen."

Prayer in Honour of St George 

"O God, who didst grant to Saint George strength and constancy in the various torments which he sustained for our holy faith; we beseech Thee to preserve, through his intercession, our faith from wavering and doubt, so that we may serve Thee with a sincere heart faithfully unto death. Through Christ our Lord.

Amen."

Invocation of Saint George - Prayers of Intercession

"Faithful servant of God and invincible martyr, Saint George; favoured by God with the gift of faith, and inflamed with an ardent love of Christ, thou didst fight valiantly against the dragon of pride, falsehood, and deceit. Neither pain nor torture, sword nor death could part thee from the love of Christ. I fervently implore thee for the sake of this love to help me by thy intercession to overcome the temptations that surround me, and to bear bravely the trials that oppress me, so that I may patiently carry the cross which is placed upon me; and let neither distress nor difficulties separate me from the love of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Valiant champion of the Faith, assist me in the combat against evil, that I may win the crown promised to them that persevere unto the end."

Final Prayer

"My Lord and my God! I offer up to Thee my petition in union with the bitter passion and death of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, together with the merits of His immaculate and blessed Mother, Mary ever virgin, and of all the saints, particularly with those of the holy Helper in whose honour I make this novena.   Look down upon me, merciful Lord! Grant me Thy grace and Thy love, and graciously hear my prayer.  Amen"

a) Como realiza essa nova existência? Será pela sua transformação como Espírito?

"Depurando-se, a alma indubitavelmente experimenta uma transformação, mas para isso necessária lhe é a prova da vida corporal."

b) A alma passa então por muitas existências corporais?

"Sim, todos contamos muitas existências. Os que dizem o contrário pretendem manter-vos na ignorância em que eles próprios se encontram. Esse o desejo deles."

c) Parece resultar desse princípio que a alma, depois de haver deixado um corpo, toma outro, ou, então, que reencarna em novo corpo. É assim que se deve entender?

"Evidentemente."

167. Qual o fim objetivado com a reencarnação?

"Expiação, melhoramento progressivo da Humanidade. Sem isto, onde a justiça?"

168. É limitado o número das existências corporais, ou o Espírito reencarna perpetuamente?

"A cada nova existência, o Espírito dá um passo para diante na senda do progresso. Desde que se ache limpo de todas as impurezas, não tem mais necessidade das provas da vida corporal."

169. É invariável o número das encarnações para todos os Espíritos?

"Não; aquele que caminha depressa, a muitas provas se forra. Todavia, as encarnações sucessivas são sempre muito numerosas, porquanto o progresso é quase infinito."

170. O que fica sendo o Espírito depois da sua última encarnação?

"Espírito bem-aventurado; puro Espírito."

"1 O peso que viu o profeta Habacuque.

2 Até quando, Senhor, clamarei eu, e tu não me escutarás? Gritar-te-ei: Violência! e não salvarás?

3 Por que razão me mostras a iniqüidade, e me fazes ver a opressão? Pois que a destruição e a violência estão diante de mim, havendo também quem suscite a contenda e o litígio.

4 Por esta causa a lei se afrouxa, e a justiça nunca se manifesta; porque o ímpio cerca o justo, e a justiça se manifesta distorcida.

5 Vede entre os gentios e olhai, e maravilhai-vos, e admirai-vos; porque realizarei em vossos dias uma obra que vós não crereis, quando for contada.

6 Porque eis que suscito os caldeus, nação amarga e impetuosa, que marcha sobre a largura da terra, para apoderar-se de moradas que não são suas.

7 Horrível e terrível é; dela mesma sairá o seu juízo e a sua dignidade.

14 E por que farias os homens como os peixes do mar, como os répteis, que não têm quem os governe?

15 Ele a todos levantará com o anzol, apanhá-los-á com a sua rede, e os ajuntará na sua rede varredoura; por isso ele se alegrará e se regozijará.

16 Por isso sacrificará à sua rede, e queimará incenso à sua varredoura; porque com elas engordou a sua porção, e engrossou a sua comida.

17 Porventura por isso esvaziará a sua rede e não terá piedade de matar as nações continuamente?"

Habacuque considerava que a impiedade do seu povo era proveniente da opressão, da violência, do litígio, das injustiças, porém, esqueceu que os homens são ímpios porque foram gerados e concebidos em pecado. Ele não atinou que o primeiro pai dos homens (Adão) pecou e por isso todos tornaram-se pecados, e carecem da glória de Deus."
